Minnesota ophthalmic co, ex-CEO reach $12 mln U.S. kickback deal

A Minnesota ophthalmic services company and its ex-chief executive will pay $12 million to resolve allegations they supplied kickbacks such as outdoor excursions and consulting agreements to doctors in exchange for business.

The settlements announced by Minnesota Acting U.S. Attorney Gregory Brooker on Monday resolve claims that Sightpath Medical Inc and ex-CEO James Tiffany engaged in improper conduct that led to false claims being submitted to Medicare for coverage.
