UPDATE 1-Hertz to buy Australian car-sharing firm Flexicar

Oct 27 (Reuters) - Hertz Global Holdings (HTZ.N) said it agreed to buy Melbourne-based Flexicar for an undisclosed sum, making its foray into the Australian car-sharing market.

Flexicar operates 90 vehicles and has about 2,500 members throughout Melbourne and Sydney, Hertz said.

Flexicar will be integrated into Hertz’s car-sharing brand, Connect by Hertz, which has more than 700 vehicles and 20,000 members.

The deal is expected to close on Dec. 1.

Park Ridge, New Jersey-based Hertz recently dropped its pursuit of smaller rival Dollar Thrifty DTG.N after failing to win approval from Dollar shareholders. [ID:nN30134351] (Reporting by A.Ananthalakshmi in Bangalore; Editing by Gopakumar Warrier)
