Slovenia's Chinese-owned appliance maker Gorenje to cut 270 jobs

LJUBLJANA, April 26 (Reuters) - Household appliances maker Gorenje, the Slovenian unit of Chinese appliance manufacturer Hisense, said on Friday it plans to reduce its workforce by 6.4 percent.

“We want to streamline management ... to be able to react to business challenges faster, increase synergies with Hisense and reduce costs,” Gorenje, which was taken over by the Chinese company last June, said in a statement.

The company, which is one of the largest Slovenian exporters, plans to cut 270 jobs out of a total of 4,212.

Gorenje said in March it made a net loss of 111 million euros ($123.54 million) in 2018 versus a net profit of 1.3 million euros a year before as sales fell. ($1 = 0.8985 euros) (Reporting By Marja Novak; Editing by Kirsten Donovan)
