Istanbul device explodes, injuring two - Turkish TV

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Two people were lightly injured when a small device exploded in Turkey’s largest city Istanbul on Tuesday, CNN Turk television said, quoting Dogan News Agency.

The percussion bomb -- which makes a very loud noise but contains only a light amount of explosives -- went off in a rubbish bin on the outskirts of the city, CNN Turk said.

Tensions are high as Turkey carries out cross-border military strikes against Kurdish separatist targets in northern Iraq, and 39 cars were set ablaze in Istanbul alone on Monday night.

Bombs are not infrequent in Turkey, where Kurdish separatists, al Qaeda, and left-wing militants have all been blamed for attacks against civilians and the authorities.
