UPDATE 1-Turk Telekom in acquisition talks with Invitel Intl

ISTANBUL, May 3 (Reuters) - Turk Telekom TTKOM.IS said on Monday it would start exclusive talks to acquire central European data capacity and services firm Invitel International, as it looks develop to develop its data operations unit.

“Turk Telekom and Invitel Holdings A/S have agreed to commence exclusive discussions regarding the acquisition of Invitel Holdings A/S’s international wholesale business (Invitel International collectively),” Turk Telekom said in a statement.

The completion of any acquisition would be subject to regulatory approval, Turk Telekom said.

Invitel International is one of the leading independent providers of wholesale data and capacity services in Central and South-Eastern Europe with presence in 16 countries, Turk Telekom said.

Thomson Reuters’ RLPC unit reported last month that the sale of Hungarian telecoms group Invitel’s central European backbone network could raise 250 million euros and that both private equity sponsors and trade buyers were interested in the asset. LDE63L1BU

Invitel is currently owned by private equity firm Mid Europa.

By 1200 GMT shares in Turk Telekom TTKOM.IS traded down 0.9 percent to 5.50 lira, underperforming the Istanbul stock exchange which traded 0.46 percent weaker. (Reporting by Alexandra Hudson; Editing by Hans Peters)
