Motor racing - Kyle Busch edged out Carl Edwards to take the chequered flag at the Daytona Beach Nascar competition in Florida on Saturday in a race that ended under caution.

With less than a lap to the field was frozen due to an accident, after which NASCAR reviewed the order, handing Busch his sixth win of the season and his first triumph at Daytona.

He said: “We didn’t have the best car tonight, but we never gave up. Luckily we got up to the front when it mattered most.”

Olympics - Charlton Athletic midfielder Zheng Zhi is likely to miss the Beijing Olympics because of a back injury, China’s state media has reported.

Although Zheng has a herniated disc in his lower back, coach Ratomir Dujkovic said he has not given up hope of a recovery, adding: “The Olympic team needs him, we need a Zheng Zhi in top form.”

Soccer - Turkey’s soccer president Hasan Dogan died of a heart attack on Saturday while dining with national team coach Fatih Terim the country’s soccer federation said.

Dogan, 52, was holidaying in southwest Turkey and suffered a heart attack during the lunch meeting in Bodrum. He was sent to hospital but doctors were unable to save him, the Turkish Football Federation said on its Web Site.
