ZURICH, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Swiss medical device maker Synthes Inc SYST.VX acquired privately owned U.S. surgical tools maker The Anspach Effort, Inc, for an undisclosed purchase price, the Swiss group said on Monday.
The Swiss maker of nails, screws and plates to fix broken bones said Anspach’s focus on high speed surgical power tools for use in neurosurgery, spinal and ENT surgery would help Synthes to expand its power tools product offering to hospitals and surgeons worldwide.
“We will establish a dedicated power tools division, with close to $200 million in total sales,” Synthes chief executive Michel Orsinger said in a statement.
The transaction closed on November 5, 2010 and was expected to be neutral to earnings, except for small one-time charges in 2011 related to the expansion of the global distribution network, the groups said.
