The first trailer for "Prometheus" is out — and it's terrifying.
The much-anticipated trailer — which was teased with three previews earlier this week — features people screaming, bodies flying, and spacecraft exploding. Of course, there are gooey alien creatures, too.
"I'm so sorry," a voice gasps at the beginning of the trailer.
At the end, the following appears: "They went looking for our beginning. What they found could be our end."
(Story continues after the trailer.)
"Prometheus" marks a return to the sci-fi genre for Ridley Scott, who directed the first "Alien" 33 years ago. Originally intended as an "Alien" prequel, the film takes place 30 years before that landmark film but stands on its own, featuring a completely different cast of characters and storyline.

Starring Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Patrick Wilson, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce, it revolves around a team of space explorers investigating an alien species responsible for the origin of mankind.
The movie's tagline is "The search for our beginning could lead to our end."
The "Prometheus" trailer was the third in a trio of much-anticipated trailers released this week. The second "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" on Tuesday.
The wait for the trailer was as excruciating as an alien bursting through John Hurt's chest. In the buildup to its release, Scott released three 30-second teasers — on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. In each, Scott talks about returning "to the genre he redefined" as glimpses of "Prometheus" — and the making of the movie — are shown.
In one of the clips, he says "Prometheus" will be "all about everything. I come from the All About Everything School."
"Some good thinking, some great narrative, good dialogue and therefore, terrific actors," Scott says.
"Prometheus" was written by Damon Lindelof, co-creator and executive producer of "Lost," and Jon Spaihts ("The Darkest Hour"). From Scott Free (owned by Scott and his brother, director Tony Scott) and Brandywine Productions, it is distributed by 20th Century Fox.
