'One Tree Hill' Production Halted Due to Hurricane Irene

"One Tree Hill" managed to avoid the ax and wring one more season out for itself, but now it's encountered a more fearsome opponent than network fickleness -- Mother Nature.

Production on the series has been temporarily shut down due to Hurricane Irene, which is expected to make landfall on Saturday in North Carolina. (The series films in Wilmington, North Carolina.)

According to a statement from Warner Bros. TV, the shut-down could last through the weekend.

"As a precautionary measure and in consideration of our cast and crew, 'One Tree Hill' production has shut down for today due to Hurricane Irene," the statement reads. "We will continue to monitor the situation over the next few days."

The series' star, Sophia Bush, tweeted about the shut-down late Thursday, writing, "OTH production has been canceled for tomorrow. All our fans in town, please stay inside! We will not be filming. Stay safe."

Bush's co-star, Austin Nichols, chimed in with own digital missive, writing on Thursday, "Shutting down production tomorrow. Can't wait to dance with this large woman called Irene."

The series is currently working on its ninth and final season. After heavy speculation that the show would be axed, CW renewed the series in May, but outgoing CW president Dawn Ostroff quickly noted that this would be the final run of the series. Its 13-episode swan song is scheduled to premiere in January.
