Dropbox buys loyatly app Endorse a month after it closed down

Cloud storage goliath Dropbox has acquired the coupon and loyalty app Endorse and its team, the companies announced today in a blog post.

Interestingly enough, Endorse shut down its app last month. Endorse’s app for the web and mobile devices let shoppers earn cash back on purchases for staying loyal to certain brands with their purchases. On top of cash back, brands could offer up discounts to loyal customers. Ideally, the goal was to minimize the gap between online offers and physical purchases.

The company was founded in November 2010 and had raised $4.25 million in funding from Accel Partners and SV Angel in early 2012. Now the Endorse team will be joining Dropbox.

“We have known and long-admired the Dropbox team for years,” Endorse CEO and cofounder Steve Carpenter wrote today. “Dropbox has that rare combination of talent, teamwork, and vision. We are joining an incredible team with ambitious goals and lots of difficult and exciting technical and business challenges ahead, and we could not be more pleased to have the opportunity be a part of the journey.”

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
