Bangladesh shuts down cellphone networks

DHAKA, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Bangladesh cellphone providers shut down mobile phone networks across the country on Thursday as disgruntled soldiers fired weapons and took to the streets in a mutiny over wages, an official said.

"Mobile networks have been closed inside the Pilkhana (BDR headquarters) and all areas outside Dhaka at the instruction of Bnagladesh Telecoms Regulatory Commission," said Syed Talat Kamal, chief information officer of Grameenphone.
