Kosovo applies to join IMF, World Bank - PM

BRUSSELS, July 11 (Reuters) - Kosovo has applied for membership of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the prime minister of the newly independent Balkan state said on Friday.

"Yes, yesterday we applied to be members of the World Bank and IMF," said Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, adding he expected a positive response soon.

Only sovereign states can join the World Bank and becoming a member would be another boost for Kosovo’s recognition as an independent state. (Reporting by Mark John; Editing by David Brunnstrom)
