PARIS, June 26 (Reuters) - French engineering group Alstom (ALSO.PA) said on Tuesday it would buy Spanish wind turbine maker Ecotecnia for 350 million euros ($471.1 million) in its first move into the wind power industry.
In a statement, Alstom said Ecotecnia was likely to have sales in 2007 of between 300 and 350 million euros and an operating margin of 7 percent. Half its sales are generated outside Spain in other European markets.
It said Ecotecnia had installed or was in the process of installing more than 1,500 wind turbines, generating 1,433 megawatts of electricity or 2 percent of worldwide capacity.
The Spanish company, currently structured as a cooperative, is also active in solar panels, Alstom said.
An Alstom spokesman said Chairman Patrick Kron would present more details at a news conference in Paris at 1100 GMT.
