YEKATERINBURG, Russia, Dec 23 (Reuters) - An explosion killed six miners on Wednesday at a Russian iron ore mine owned by Evraz Group

, an official for Evraz said.

"All work at the mine has been stopped. Everybody has been evacuated," he said. The total number missing was still being counted, he added.

The blast occurred in one of the four mines belonging to Evraz subsidiary Vysokogorsky GOK. The company operates in the city of Nizhny Tagil, in the Sverdlovsk region of the Ural mountains. (Reporting by Natalya Shurmina, writing by Robin Paxton)
