Greece must meet deficit targets to get aid - source

BRUSSELS, Feb 11 (Reuters) - A financial rescue package for Greece depends on Athens meeting deficit reduction targets for this year, an EU Commission source said on Thursday, and a deal is likely to be finalised by Tuesday.

EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has met a range of players involved in drawing up a package for Greece over the past two days and is convinced a solution can be found, with political backing today and details on Tuesday, the source said.

“(Any package) should include two elements: Greece needs to do whatever is necessary, including additional measures, to ensure deficit reduction targets for this year are met,” the source said.

“Secondly, in that case, the euro zone members should be ready to safeguard financial stability in the euro zone area as a whole,” he said.
