*BAGHDAD - Gunmen in a speeding car fired on an Iraqi army checkpoint in western Baghdad, wounding one soldier. Soldiers returned fire, killing three alleged attackers, the spokesman for the Baghdad security operations centre said.

MOSUL - Gunmen opened fire from a speeding vehicle killing a passerby in western Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

MOSUL - Armed men stormed a house killing four people, including three women, in the center of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles), police said.

SAMARRA - Iraqi security forces found the bodies of 14 badly decomposed bodies, believed to be men, in a mass grave to the west of Samarra, 100 km (62 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.
