* To unveil Cladhan field holds between 100-200 mln barrels
* Follows Catcher field discovery in June
LONDON, Aug 29 (Reuters) - UK oil and gas explorer Encore Oil EO.L and German oil firm Wintershall BASFn.DE, will announce a new North Sea oil find this week, according to the Sunday Times, in what would be the latest in a string of large discoveries this year.
The companies will reveal that the Cladhan field, north east of the Shetland Islands, holds between 100-200 million barrels, the report said, quoting industry sources.
This follows the biggest find in the North Sea since 2001 when the 300 million barrel Catcher field was identified in June, with both Encore and Wintershall owning stakes in the licence. [ID:nLDE65R0DE] [ID:nSGE679096]
Wintershall also recently made a significant find at the Blakeney well off Scotland. [ID:nLDE67P0MH]
The most recent discovery at the Cladhan field may also trigger takeover interest in Encore, whose share price has tripled since the Catcher discovery, with Wintershall tipped as the most likely bidder, said the report.
Encore, which started drilling at the site in August, will now drill horizontally to determine the size of the field according to the report.
A spokesperson at Encore Oil declined to comment on the report and Wintershall was not immediately available for comment.
