LISBON, Nov 26 (Reuters) - A news report that Portugal is under pressure by Europe to seek a bailout is false, a government spokesman said on Friday.
“This news article is completely false, it has no foundation,” said a government spokesman.
The Financial Times Deutschland reported on Friday that a majority of euro zone countries and the European Central Bank were putting pressure on Portugal to follow Ireland and Greece and seek aid from the European Union and International Monetary Fund.
Portugal’s Prime Minister Jose Socrates has repeatedly said that his country is not intending to seek a bailout like Ireland and Greece. (Reporting by Sergio Goncalves and Axel Bugge)
