UPDATE 1-Apache oil and gas platform catches fire, 1 dead

HOUSTON, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Apache Corp APA.N said on Wednesday an oil and natural gas processing platform in the Gulf of Mexico caught fire, resulting in the death of one worker.

The Houston company has shut in the wells that flow to the processing facilities on the EC2 platform off Louisiana and the fire has been extinguished.

Workers on the platform evacuated and were rescued. They were transferred to the hospital, where one died.

Production processed at the platform totals about 7.7 million cubic feet of natural gas and 850 barrels of oil per day.

Apache dispatched helicopters to fly over the location and said it believes environmental impact to be minimal.

Shares of Apache were up 74 cents or 0.7 percent at $106.03 in afternoon trade on the New York Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Anna Driver, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
