NEW YORK, May 19 (Reuters) - The euro jumped to a session high against the dollar and Swiss franc on Wednesday on trader talk that Greece is considering leaving the European Union.
“There are rumors flying around this morning, and traders clearly are having jitters. That’s typical when the market is on tenterhooks,” said Matthew Strauss. senior currency strategist at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto.
The euro was last up 1.5 percent against the dollar at $1.2356 EUR= after going as high as $1.2366. The euro was last up 2.1 percent against the Swiss franc at 1.4299 Swiss francs EURCHF= after going as high as 1.4304 francs, the session high.
