TORONTO, April 28 (Reuters) - Rogers Communications Inc RCIb.TO posted a 23 percent rise in quarterly earnings on Wednesday, driven by growth in its wireless, cable TV and media businesses.

Rogers, which owns Canada’s biggest wireless carrier, reported net income of C$380 million, or 64 Canadian cents a share, for the three months ending March 31. That compared with C$309 million, or 49 Canadian cents a share, a year earlier.

Excluding items, the company reported earnings of 69 Canadian cents a share, compared with the average analyst estimate of 56 Canadian cents a share, as compiled by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Revenue at Rogers, which also has Internet, cable TV and home phone divisions, rose 5 percent to C$2.89 billion, matching Thomson Reuters estimates.

In February, Rogers forecast that on a consolidated basis its 2010 adjusted profit would climb 2 percent to 7 percent. [ID:nN1699567]
