Q-Cells says silicon shortage could last until 2009

FRANKFURT, June 14 (Reuters) - German solar cell maker Q-Cells QCEG.DE said on Thursday it expected the silicon shortage to last longer than initially though.

Industry experts had so far expected the shortage of silicon, which is needed to make solar cells, to ease by 2008.

“Current estimates now say end of 2008 or early 2009,” Q-Cells Chief Executive Anton Milner told shareholders at the firm’s annual meeting in Berlin that was monitored in Frankfurt.
