CIA not behind death of Iranian scientist: U.S. official

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The CIA played no role in a bombing that killed a Tehran University scientist on Tuesday, a U.S. intelligence official said.

Iranian officials and state media described professor Massoud Ali-Mohammadi as a nuclear scientist, and Iran’s cabinet said agents of the United States were behind his murder.

“Any suggestion that the CIA played a role here is flat wrong,” the U.S. intelligence official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

A U.S. State Department official earlier rejected as “absurd” Tehran’s accusations of U.S. involvement.
