Democrat ekes out win in Connecticut Senate race, Fox projects

WASHINGTON, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal won the state’s U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday over Republican Linda McMahon, the Fox TV network projected, a sign Democrats could hold onto the upper chamber.

The close race was to replacing retiring Democratic Senator Christopher Dodd. McMahon spent millions of dollars of the fortune she made while heading the World Wrestling Entertainment company.

Blumenthal had built up a reputation as an activist law enforcer with high approval ratings but his campaign hit a bump when he overstated his military service record.
