NEW YORK (Reuters) - Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. said on Monday that it is shutting down the U.S. print edition of movie magazine Premiere.
Hachette, the U.S. unit of French publishing company Hachette Filipacchi Medias, said the magazine will survive as an online-only publication.
The print edition will continue to appear in six other countries — the Czech Republic, France, Poland, Portugal and Spain, spokeswoman Anne Janas said.
Editor-in-Chief Peter Herbst will leave Hachette, while Entertainment Group Vice President and Publisher Paul Turcotte will stay in a new role to be announced in the near future, Hachette said in a statement.
About 25 positions will be cut, Janas said.
It is the latest magazine that Hachette has shut down as it and other publishers deal with falling circulation and weak advertising trends, brought on in part by a constantly updated flood of information and news on the World Wide Web.
As was the case with titles like Elle Girl and Shock, Hachette will preserve the brand name online.
“We’ve been pretty clear from our parent company... that we’re interested in being very vigorous about our digital investment,” Janas said.
Premiere was never for sale, though Hachette had meetings with other companies about possible joint ventures, Janas said. This contradicted earlier reports that Hachette had put the magazine on the block.
