U.S. appeals court upholds fee award in Icon v. Octane patent battle

A federal appeals court on Friday said exercise equipment maker Icon Health & Fitness Inc must cover $1.6 million in attorneys’ fees incurred by rival Octane Fitness LLC defending a patent lawsuit by Icon that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed a lower court ruling that Icon brought a weak patent infringement case against Octane and should cover some of the latter’s costs.
