The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts petitioned the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday for a new hearing in its loss to photographer Lynn Goldsmith on its claims that Warhol’s drawings made fair use of Goldsmith’s photos of the rock star Prince.
The Foundation warned that Circuit Judge Gerard Lynch’s March decision finding Warhol’s works weren’t transformative could “render unlawful many of the most historically significant artistic works of the last half-century.”
