Iran says stoning sentenced suspended, under review

TEHRAN, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Iranian authorities have suspended the sentence of death by stoning for a woman convicted of adultery, the foreign ministry said on Wednesday.

“The verdict regarding the extramarital affairs has stopped and it’s being reviewed,” Foreign Ministry Ramin Mehmanparast told Iran’s state-run English language Press TV. The case has provoked international outrage and further strained relations between Iran and the West. (Reporting by Robin Pomeroy, Editing by Sonya Hepinstall)
