Iraq to close airports and border crossings for 24 hours during election -State TV

BAGHDAD, May 9 (Reuters) - Iraq will close its airports and border crossings for 24 hours during a May 12 election, state television said on Wednesday citing an Iraqi border agency order.

Iraqis vote on Saturday in the first national election after defeating Islamic State militants who took over large swathes of the country in 2014.

The shutdown will come into effect at midnight on Friday. (Reporting by Ahmed Aboulenein; editing by Dominic Evans)
