Italy schedules election on March 4 2018 - government source

ROME, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Italy has scheduled a national election to take place on March 4 2018, a government source said on Thursday.

The outgoing cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, set the date at a meeting held after President Sergio Mattarella formally dissolved parliament earlier in the afternoon.
