Italy - Factors to watch on May 3

MILANO, May 3 (Reuters) - The following factors could affect Italian markets on Friday.

POLITICS

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Thursday he would propose at the next cabinet meeting the dismissal of a junior minister who has been linked to a graft scandal, in what could be seen as a blow to the coalition partner League.

ECONOMY

Italy posted a state sector budget deficit of 31.6 billion euros ($35.3 billion) in the first four months of the year, an increase of around 1.5 billion euros compared with the same period of 2018, the Treasury said on Thursday.

TELECOM ITALIA, GEDI GROUP

Italian infrastructure fund F2i has filed a binding bid for Telecom Italia’s broadcasting unit Persidera worth 240-250 million euros, two sources close to the matter said.

ATLANTIA

Deadline to respond to transport ministry on collapse of ‘Morandi Bridge’.

Board meeting on Q1 results, followed by conference call (1200 GMT).

Italian new car sales rose 1.5 percent in April, according to data released by the transport ministry. Fiat Chrysler said it had sold 44,100 new cars for a market share of 25.3 percent compared with 24.8 percent in February and March.

RCS

Blackstone Group is seeking up to $600 million in damages from the chairman and controlling shareholder of Italian publisher RCS Mediagroup over a disputed property sale, a source close to the fund said on Thursday.

Enel is looking at two companies in Chile being sold by the U.S. group Sempra worth around $3-4 billion, Il Sole 24 Ore said.

The oil major’s $1 billion dollar bond drew demand from investors to the tune of $4.6 billion, the company said.

Prosiebensat could consider the spin off of its e-commerce division to make a merger with Mediaset easier, MF said.

(*) BANCA CARIGE (shares suspended from trading)

The Bank of Italy held a conference call with BlackRock on May 1 to offer assurances to the U.S. fund on its rescue plan for Carige, Il Messaggero said. The plan includes focusing the bank on asset management, improving efficiency through revenue growth and cost cuts and cutting headcount by an overall 2,000, it said.

TENARIS

Tenaris reports Q1 net sales of $1.872 billion versus $1.866 billion.

(*) ALITALIA

The idea of the Treasury and state railways temporarily increasing the stake they plan to take in Alitalia has emerged after Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio said on Thursday only 15 percent, and not 40 percent, of the flagship carrier’s capital was not covered by investors, Il Messaggero said.

Several papers said highway concessionaire Atlantia could reverse its decision not to invest in the carrier under certain conditions. Il Messaggero said the governing League party was in favour of Atlantia coming on board.
