Italy transport minister says junior minister should resign

MILAN, May 3 (Reuters) - Italy’s transport minister said on Friday he hoped a junior minister linked to a graft scandal could resign before the cabinet discussed the matter next week.

“I’m hoping we won’t have to get to a cabinet meeting next week to vote (over the matter) I hope he can take a step back,” Danilo Toninelli told Radio24.

Italian prime minister on Thursday said he would propose at the next cabinet meeting the dismissal of Armando Siri, a transport ministry undersecretary and economic adviser to League chief Matteo Salvini.

Siri has been placed under investigation last month for allegedly accepting bribes to promote the interests of renewable energy firms. (Reporting by Valentina Za, editing by Stephen Jewkes)
