TOKYO, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Japan will purchase euro zone bonds to help bolster confidence in the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF), Japanese Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda said on Tuesday.
Noda told a news conference that, rather than buying individual countries’ bonds, it was appropriate to purchase a certain amount of euro zone bonds to be jointly issued later this month to raise funds to support Ireland.
“I think it’s appropriate for Japan to purchase a certain amount of bonds to boost confidence in the EFSF,” he said. (Reporting by Tetsushi Kajimoto; Editing by Edmund Klamann)
