S.Korea buys $1.5 bln to check won -traders

SEOUL, April 27 (Reuters) - South Korea's foreign exchange authorities bought an estimated $1.5 billion in an attempt to push down the won KRW= on Tuesday, traders said.

The won closed local trade down 0.54 percent at 1,110.1 per dollar from Monday's domestic close KRW=KFTC of 1,104.1.

Earlier, a senior ministry official said the authorities would take measures to prevent sharp movements in the won on “herd behaviour.” [ID:nTOE63Q04I] (Reporting by Lee Soo-jung, Writing by Cheon Jong-woo; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)
