Chile LAN says to start Colombia cargo ops in March

SANTIAGO, Feb 11 (Reuters) - The cargo arm of Chile’s dominant airline, LAN LAN.SN LFL.N, said on Wednesday it’s new Colombia cargo affiliate will start operating there in March after obtaining the required technical and operational clearances.

Colombia is the largest air cargo market in Latin America in terms of exports to the United States, with estimated volume of 200,000 tons annually.

LAN Cargo said in a statement its Colombia arm would start operating Boeing 767-300F aircraft with a 54 tonne load capacity, and would fly between Colombia and main regional destinations.

LAN’s cargo network covers about 75 destinations worldwide. LAN Cargo already has operations in Brazil and Mexico.

Parent LAN has affiliates in Ecuador, Peru and Argentina. It accounts for more than half of Chile’s international passenger traffic and nearly three-quarters of its domestic traffic. (Writing by Simon Gardner)
