At least a half a dozen major law firms announced layoffs to their professional staffs this week, and more such cuts are coming, according to legal consultants tracking the moves.
Pressure to trim staff positions isn’t new, as consolidation, technology and rising productivity have made some professional roles less critical. But the coronavirus pandemic has accelerated the trend, and some firms are saying bluntly that they don’t need as many staffers as they thought.
