Madoff accountant charged with fraud

NEW YORK, March 18 (Reuters) - An accountant for Bernard Madoff was charged with fraud on Wednesday for his role in the confessed swindler’s massive Ponzi scheme.

The accountant, David Friehling, surrendered to authorities Wednesday morning.

He has been charged with securities fraud, aiding and abetting investment adviser fraud, and four counts of filing false audit reports with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan said. (Reporting by Martha Graybow, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
