Argentine stocks, bonds rally on holdouts proposal

BUENOS AIRES, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Argentine bonds and stocks rallied in mid-afternoon trade on Monday after President Cristina Fernandez said the government was studying a proposal deal with “holdout” creditors who rejected a 2005 debt swap.

The MerVal index of leading shares .MERV was up 2.64 percent at 1,706.45 points while locally-traded government bonds rose 2.1 percent on average. (Reporting by Jorge Otaola; Writing by Helen Popper)
