EURO GOVT-ECB seen buying Italian, Spanish govt bonds

LONDON, Aug 11 (Reuters) - The European Central Bank was seen buying Italian and Spanish government bonds in small amounts on Thursday, to protect the two markets from ongoing fears that the euro zone crisis will spread.

“They are buying Italian and Spanish bonds this morning, but only bits of them,” one trader said.

Italian 10-year bond yields were 4 basis points lower on the day at 5.068 percent, while their Spanish equivalents were 3.4 bps down at 5.004 percent. (Reporting by the London bonds team)
