Brazil's Bovespa index slumps more than 7 pct

SAO PAULO, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Brazil’s stock market recorded its biggest one-day drop since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on Thursday as concerns deepened that a credit crisis in the United States may spread to other countries.

    The Bovespa index .BVSP of the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange was down 7.8 percent at 45,461.71, its weakest level since March 29.
