Mexico's peso firms sharply on US payrolls data

MEXICO CITY, May 3 (Reuters) - Mexico’s peso firmed sharply on Friday after stronger than expected employment data in the United States, Mexico’s top trading partner.

The peso firmed as much as 0.8 percent to 12.08 per dollar, driving the cost of dollars in pesos to a level that it failed to break last week. Last month, the Mexican currency hit a 20-month high near 12.02 per dollar.
