Japan’s Astellas Pharma Inc (4503.T) offered to buy the U.S. drugmaker for $52.00 a share, or about $3.5 billion, in cash to gain access to OSI’s cancer drug Tarceva. [ID:nSGE6200CW]

ARIAD PHARMACEUTICALS INC ARIA.O, $2.73, up 7 pct

Shares rise after the company said its experimental leukemia drug got an orphan drug status from the U.S. health regulator. [ID:nWNAB3271]

CELL THERAPEUTICS (CTIC.O), $0.59, down 12 pct

Shares fell after the company said late Friday that its auditors had expressed “substantial doubt” about its ability to continue as a going concern. [ID:SGE6200D5]

VIVUS INC (VVUS.O), $9, up 7 pct

Shares rose Monday after the Food and Drug Administration accepted the New Drug Application for the company’s obesity drug Qnexa. [ID:nWNAB3228]

TOWER GROUP INC TWGP.O, $22.77, Friday’s close

The property and casualty insurer’s fourth-quarter operating income rose 68 percent on higher net premiums, but it cut its 2010 earnings view. [ID:SGE6200CV]

PERFECT WORLD CO LTD PWRD.O, $38, down 4 pct
