ROME, June 3 (Reuters) - Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said on Tuesday Alitalia AZPIa.MI will need international partners and Air France-KLM AIRF.PA would be a good option for the struggling Italian carrier.
“I think Alitalia will need to find accords with international partners and ... Air France could be a good solution,” Berlusconi told a joint news conference with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Air France pulled out of a deal to buy Alitalia earlier this year in the face of trade union opposition to its proposed restructuring plan.
Sarkozy gave a more cautious reply, saying future accords between the two airlines were “up to Air France’s management to decide.
“I understand in Mister Silvio Berluscon’s answer the will to not rule out anything in the future,” he added.
