NEW YORK, Oct 25 (Reuters) - AT&T Inc T.N said on Thursday its launch of broadcast television services with Qualcomm Inc QCOM.O unit MediaFlo USA would be delayed until early 2008 instead of this year.
AT&T, the No. 1 U.S. mobile service, said in February it would offer the MediaFlo TV service by the end of this year. Spokesman Mark Siegel said the delay was due to the company’s efforts to fine-tune the service, but he gave no details about what specifically caused the change in timing.
“It’s likely to come out in the very early part of 2008,” said Siegel.
Wireless carriers have been putting everything from e-mail and Web surfing to music and video on phones as they look to boost revenues.
In 2004 Qualcomm said MediaFlo USA would spend $800 million over four to five years on building a network to broadcast full-length television shows to mobile phones.
