Heineken to buy Serbian brewer Rodic

AMSTERDAM, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Dutch brewer Heineken NV HEIN.AS is buying Serbia's Rodic Brewery, making it the third-biggest player in the market, Heineken said on Wednesday.

Heineken did not disclose a purchase price, but said it would pay for the deal out of cash and that Rodic would add to earnings from 2010.

Rodic, which sells the beer brands MB Premium, MB Pils and Master, started in 2003 and expected to sell 500,000 hectolitres of beer in 2007, Heineken said in a statement.

“In 2007, it is estimated that the Serbian beer market will grow between 3 to 5 percent,” Heineken said, “The market’s estimated total annual consumption in 2006 was 5.6 million hectolitres. Per capita consumption was 52 litres in 2006.”

The deal to buy Rodic is subject to regulatory approval, Heineken said. (Reporting by Reed Stevenson)
