SILVERSTONE, England, July 18 (Reuters) - Team by team analysis of Sunday’s British Formula One Grand Prix, the 10th race of the season. Teams are listed in championship order.
RED BULL - Sergio Perez 16, Max Verstappen retired
Verstappen crashed out after a collision with Hamilton at Copse on the opening lap. His 33 point lead was slashed to eight. The Sunday blank ended a run of five wins in a row for Red Bull and trimmed their constructors lead from 44 to four points. Verstappen took three points from winning the first ever Saturday sprint. Perez started last but set the fastest lap, without getting the bonus point because you have to finish in the top 10 to do so.
MERCEDES - Lewis Hamilton 1, Valtteri Bottas 3
Hamilton’s record-extending eighth home win was also the 99th of his F1 career and fourth of the season. He collected a 10 second penalty for the Verstappen collision, took it and fought back to pass Leclerc for the victory with two laps to spare. Bottas obeyed team orders while in second place to let Hamilton go through.
MCLAREN - Lando Norris 4, Daniel Ricciardo 5
Norris continued his run of top five placings, with nine in 10 races, while Ricciardo enjoyed his best result of the season so far. Norris is now back up to third overall, Ricciardo consolidating eighth.
FERRARI - Charles Leclerc 2, Carlos Sainz 6
Leclerc took the lead on the opening lap after Verstappen’s exit and stayed ahead after the re-start until he was finally reeled in by Hamilton. The result was the Monegasque’s first podium of the season and Ferrari’s second. They narrowed the gap to third-placed McLaren to 15 points. The race marked the 70th anniversary of Ferrari’s first win.
ALPHATAURI - Yuki Tsunoda 10, Pierre Gasly 11
Gasly suffered a puncture which forced him to pit with five laps to go, dashing his hopes of a points finish. Tsunoda managed the tyres well and scored for the fourth time this season.
ASTON MARTIN - Lance Stroll 8, Sebastian Vettel retired
Vettel spun off and to the back of the field while battling Alonso. The car was then retired with a cooling issue. Stroll went from 14th on the grid thanks to two strong starts.
ALPINE - Fernando Alonso 7, Esteban Ocon 9
A double points finish for the Renault-owned team, with Alonso scoring for the fifth race in a row and Ocon back in the points for the first time since Monaco.
ALFA ROMEO - Antonio Giovinazzi 13, Kimi Raikkonen 15
Raikkonen ran in the points until a late contact with Perez triggered a spin that dropped him down the order.
WILLIAMS - George Russell 12, Nicholas Latifi 14
Russell’s search for a first point with Williams continues. The Briton was handed a three-place grid penalty on Saturday and finished where he started.
HAAS - Nikita Mazepin 17, Mick Schumacher 18
Mazepin passed Schumacher and finished ahead of the German for only the second time this season. (Reporting by Alan Baldwin, editing by Toby Davis)
