Sept 23 (Reuters) - Online movie rental company Netflix Inc (NFLX.O) said it signed agreements with the CBS Corp CBS.N and Walt Disney Co’s (DIS.N) Disney Channel that will allow current season episodes of a number of TV shows to be streamed at Netflix.
Netflix subscribers will be able to watch television shows including CBS’s “CSI” and “NCIS” and the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” and “Wizards of Waverly Place,” over the Internet.
The agreements with CBS and Disney Channel also add older TV shows such as “Star Trek,” “MacGyver,” and “Family Ties, to the library of choices that can be streamed on Netflix, the company said.
The online DVD rental pioneer said members can watch the shows on their PCs and TVs as part of their existing subscription plans and without impacting the number of DVDs they receive.
Netflix in recent years has become a staple of home entertainment for many Americans who like the user friendly Internet ordering system for DVDs and rapid delivery by mail. It also has increased its online video offerings. (Reporting by Ajay Kamalakaran in Bangalore; Editing by Lincoln Feast)
