Dutch Cabinet: telecom takeovers must have government pre-approval

AMSTERDAM, April 19 (Reuters) - The Dutch Cabinet on Thursday proposed a law that would require any party wishing to attempt a takeover of a Dutch-based telecommunications company to first seek government approval.

The proposed “Law on Undesired Control of Telecommunications” would apply to telephone, internet and data center companies, the Cabinet said in a statement.

It cited national security interests as the reason for the law. (Reporting by Toby Sterling)
