BOSTON, Dec 13 (Reuters) - Novell Inc NOVL.O, the No. 2 publicly held maker of Linux software, reported on Thursday a quarterly loss compared with a year-earlier profit on an increase in operating expenses.
The company’s shares fell 4.9 percent in after hours trading.
The company reported a fourth-quarter loss of $17.9 million, or 5 cents per share, compared with a year-earlier profit of $19.9 million, or 5 cents a share. Net revenue rose to $245 million from $234 million a year earlier.
Novell also expects to report revenue of $920 million to $945 million in its current fiscal year, which ends in October 2008. That is compared with $932 million in the previous year.
The company expects to expand its restructuring program and consolidate facilities, incurring an additional $15 million to $25 million in related expense. (Reporting by Jim Finkle; Editing by Gary Hill/Andre Grenon)
