US Senate approves war funds bill, sends to Obama

WASHINGTON, June 18 (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Thursday approved a $106 billion bill to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan after overcoming disputes over closing the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay and also providing credit lines for the International Monetary Fund.

The Senate voted 91-5 for the measure, which now goes to President Barack Obama for his expected signature. The bill provides nearly $80 billion for scaling back operations in Iraq and boosting forces in Afghanistan. (Reporting by Jeremy Pelofsky, Editing by Sandra Maler)
